I have been working with a national campaign run by high school students like me who want to change their school dress codes. We feel that dress codes are unfairly written and enforced, especially against girls. They do not allow students to express themselves freely, are confusing for teachers and students, and have the effect of shaming girls and putting an unfair burden on them to control boys’ behavior.
The effort is called the Coded Campaign, and its purpose is for students to work cooperatively with teachers, administrators and school boards, and to teach students how to create positive change through civil discourse and positive advocacy.
